Avoice Celebrates Women’s History Month by Remembering Two Great Women of the CBC

Last March Avoice commemorated Women’s History Month with the launch of a new exhibit honoring the women of the Congressional Black Caucus and their involvement in health care legislation. Since then we have lost two celebrated women of the CBC to battles with cancer. Representative Juanita Millender-McDonald of California, the first African American woman to chair the House Committee on Administration, passed in April and Representative Julia Carson of Indiana the only African American and only woman in Indiana’s congressional delegation, passed in December 2007.

Both these women were strong leaders within the CBC and are deeply missed. Their contributions are celebrated in the Avoice Women of the CBC Exhibit.
