8th Annual Caribbean-American Heritage Month
Since 1969, members of the Congressional Black Caucus have remained committed to fighting for the rights of African-Americans and other underrepresented minorities across the globe. In June 2005, the House of Representatives unanimously adopted H Res.71, which recognized the significance of Caribbean people and their descendants in the history and culture of the United States. Members of the CBC have continued to be strong advocates for issues that affect the livelihood of Caribbean âAmericans and the region. From founding CBC member Rep. Shirley Chisholm to current members Rep. Donna Christensen and Yvette Clarke, the region continues to have a consistently strong legislative voice in Congress. This month marks the eighth anniversary of Caribbean- American Heritage Month. This year we applaud the CBC for their efforts in supporting the agenda of Caribbean-American community and we recognize the progress made by this group to remain an active part of public service.
