Congresswoman Valerie Foushee has represented the 4th Congressional District of North Carolina in the U.S. House of Representatives since 2023 (118th Congress-Present). Before first running for elected office, Foushee worked as an administrator for the Chapel Hill Police Department. She then served 25 years as a local and state elected official, serving as a member of the Chapel Hill-Carrboro City School Board, the first African American woman elected to chair the Orange County Board of Commissioners, and as a member of both the North Carolina State House and the North Carolina State Senate. In Congress, Foushee serves on the House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure and the House Committee on Science, Space, and Technology. She is a graduate of the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill.
