Congresswoman Emilia Strong Sykes has represented Ohio’s 13th Congressional District in the U.S. House of Representatives since 2023 (118th Congress-Present) and was the first Black person elected to represent the district in Congress. She serves on the Committee on Science Space, and Technology and the Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure. Before Congress, Sykes served as a state representative and minority leader in the Ohio House of Representatives. Sykes graduated from Kent State University and received a J.D. from the University of Florida Levin College of Law and a Master of Public Health from the College of Public Health and Health Professions.
