Earth Day 2009

How Do You Celebrate Earth Day?

April 22, 2009 – Avoice and Environmental Justice

Earth Day is a time to show support for the protection of our environment. Over the past 39 years since the first celebration of Earth Day in 1970, progress has been made in the effort to shift public opinion and ensure the protection of the environment through public protest, green programming and the creation of new laws and regulatory agencies. The Congressional Black Caucus has been on the forefront of this movement since its inception in 1971 and continues to advocate for environmental responsibility and equality for all Americans.

Despite the legislative and advocacy efforts of the CBC and many other individuals and organizations, environmental injustices continue to persist in American communities. Have you witnessed environmental injustice in your community? Does your community celebrate Earth Day and, if so, how?
