In Honor of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr
For over fifteen years, the members of the Congressional Black Caucus worked tirelessly to recognize the contributions of the great Martin Luther King Jr. Four days after Rev. King’s assassination on April 4, 1968, a bill was introduced to federally observe the birthday of Dr. King. The passing of this bill in 1983, symbolized the consistent effort to establish a place in history for this remarkable icon. This year marks 45 years since the death of Dr. King, a pillar within the civil rights movement and an advocate for equality in the United States and across the globe. The Martin Luther King Jr. Holiday Exhibit highlights the legislative process and effective strategy that resulted in the approval of the holiday bill for this undisputed hero of all time. Please visit our exhibit as we commemorate the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. by recognizing the efforts made to keep his memory embedded in our history.
