Congresswoman Erica Lee Carter represented the 18th Congressional District of Texas in the U.S. House of Representatives during the 118th Congress (2024-2025) after winning a special election to fill the vacancy caused by the death of her mother, Representative Sheila Jackson Lee. Lee Carter served on the House Committee on the Judiciary. Prior to joining Congress, Lee Carter worked in the nonprofit sector and as a teacher in the Houston Independent School District. She also served as a trustee for the Harris County Department of Education. Lee Carter earned a bachelor’s from the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill and an MPP from Duke University.
